I found out about him in my first art history class, my 2nd semester of college. We studied his piece, "Canyon", and talked about his combines.
I was/am into combines, so looked deeper into him. Summer 2006, I was lucky to run into his exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. When I saw the sign, i HAD to go right then. It was one of my most exciting art moments.
I have a poster from the exhibit on a wall in my room.
This is is the story behind the work on that poster:
He shall always inspire me.
What a beautiful man.
You will be greatly missed.
The first professor in art school to make me cry always talked about Rauschenberg erasing the De Kooning:
